Zenggao (zèng, pronounced as zìng, erroneously as jìng) is a traditional snack in Xi'an, Guanzhong, and southern Shanxi. It is steamed with glutinous rice, red dates, or candied dates; some are steamed in an iron steamer with red beans, raisins, etc.
Zenggao snacks have a long history. Zeng is a very ancient steamer in ancient China, made of pottery, copper, wood, iron, etc., and later the iron steamer was preserved through folk inheritance, and the sticky cakes steamed in it also have a unique flavor.
